The favoured bow of Nasu—no—Yoichi, a warlord who fought in the Genpei War. Under the command of Minamoto—no—Yoshitsune, Yoichi took part in the Battle of Yashima. When a Heike soldier raised a folding fan on one of their warships to provoke the Minamoto forces, Yoichi shot down the fan with a single arrow—a deed that greatly boosted his side's morale. The feathered designs that extend out along the limbs from the grip serve to stabilise the bow, making it a specialist weapon for precision archery.
