Senji Muramasa was a legendary swordsmith in Ise province. The name was adopted by each succeeding head of the blacksmithing lineage, and its bearer was often referred to as simply "Muramasa", just like the maker's mark on the sword. Many famous weapons were Muramasa blades, including Honda Tadakatsu's beloved spear Tonbo-kiri (dragonfly cutter), and the sword used to behead Tokugawa Nobuyasu, son of Ieyasu, after his seppuku. The current Muramasa, now advanced in years, entrusted his smithy to his granddaughter Tome before vanishing. He has not been seen for some time.
Entry 2[]
Unlock: To unlock, complete the mission "????".
The first Muramasa lived at the beginning of the Muromachi period in the 14th century. His descendants preserved his techniques and, over the course of a century, developed a form of blacksmithiny that incorporated Amrita. These core teachings were only revealed to a select few even within the family. In fact, because handling Amrita can cause wasting away of both body and soul for those who lack the talent for it, the very existence of the teachings was kept secret from those unable to receive them.Entry 3[]
Unlock: To unlock, make 10 requests to Muramasa.
There are stories of Tokugawa Ieyasu avoiding Muramasa's weapons and calling them "evil blades". Ieyasu is said to have viewed Amrita as a real threat to his newly unified country, and hoped to gather it all and seal it away in order to conceal its existence. This, perhaps, was the source of the rumour that he disliked Muramasa blades, spread by other clans and common folk who did not know the truth.
