Different types of wood are used for different applications. For example, magnolia, which is less oily, is often used for sheaths, while strong but flexible bamboo is used for making bows. In the Warring States period, warlords spent a great amount of effort to secure the best wood, even going as far as to place entire mountains and forests off limits to commoners.
