A strong, studded helmet of considerable weight. The face of a tiger bearing its teeth is inscribed beneath the large "kuwagata" horn plume. Heavy armour, said to have once belonged to Acala, or Fudo Myo. It was bestowed upon Taira—no—Sadamori by the Imperial Court, and has been a great treasure of the Taira clan ever since. Karakawa means skin of the tiger. When the Taira clan was wiped out at Dan—no—Ura, the Karakawa armour is said to have disappeared.
This do is a heavyweight item, equipped with both sandalwood plate and a chest plate to protect the areas under the arms and across the chest. The breastplate is covered in tiger skin and sports a beautiful and rousing emblem.
Arm guards that adopt the single gauntlet style used in archery, with a heavily armoured left—hand piece and a lightweight right—hand one. The guards for the backs of the hands have a tiger skin covering.
Armour consisting of "kusazuri" plates covering "haidate" guards for the thighs, all wrapped in a large tiger skin. The overall effect is an aesthetically pleasing and heroic—looking cladding offering excellent protection from the lower back down to the knees.
Greaves made from two half—round plates of iron that come together to form a cylinder, decorated with metalwork and tiger skin. The "tateage" that protect the knees are made of small iron plates stitched together like a tortoise shell.
